His career includes time spent as a tenured accounting professor (more than 15 years), an internal auditor, an expense manager, and a trustee of a government authority. Prior to entering public accounting, his professional experience includes the following industries: construction, retail sales, logistics, education, healthcare, insurance, and real estate. He also spent several years on active duty and as a reservist with the US military.
Andrew has been interviewed and/or quoted by various media sources including Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, Time, U.S. News and World Report, WalletHub, and Internal Auditor. His written works have been published in various venues including The CPA Journal, Innovations in Education and Teaching International, and TaxStringer. He has several publications in trade magazines and academic research journals, which are listed on the Andrew Griffith's Publications page.
Andrew approaches the accounting environment by emphasizes conservative accounting over aggressive accounting. For example, in the income tax accounting discipline, he does not encourage or support taking an aggressive position for a transaction on an income tax return. As a tax professional, he believes that his role is to legally minimize the tax liabilities of his clients (& legally maximize their refunds, if any) while minimizing the potential of friction between his clients and the tax authorities. He believes that aggressive accounting practices ultimately serve to maximize any potential friction between clients and the regulatory authorities and such practices are seldom in the best long-term interests of any of his clients.
Andrew believes in building ongoing, long-term relationships with clients that span years. He facilitates this by providing a level of service rarely seen in this industry. For example, clients are encouraged and expected to ask questions about their income tax returns prepared by Andrew Griffith CPA and any matters related to these returns. Additionally, Andrew Griffith CPA will ask each client several questions to ensure that the income tax returns prepared appropriately and accurately and to facilitate future financial planning and decision-making for each client.
